Hyderabad: Once Rescued From Child Marriage, These Teenagers Are College Toppers Today

Two teenage girls proved what girls can achieve, if rescued from falling victims to child marriages. Childhood friends K Sandhya and V Sandhya stood first and second in first year intermediate (plus one or class XI) by securing 450 and 430 out of 500 marks respectively. The results were out on Sunday. "Had I not been prevented from being married to my own cousin, double my age, last year, I would now be leading the life of a homemaker, may be the mother of a child too," says K Sandhya. V Sandhya, who stood second in the college with 430 marks, says, "The day I got engaged to a man, the feeling I had was I can study no more. My parents also said the same. But, I was lucky that Achyuta Rao sir (child rights activist) came to rescue me."
