Undoubtedly, Quantico is the cynosure of the channel-wallahs. It?s grabbing eyeballs or is being recorded for later viewing, since Saturday 9 pm is night out time. Trust Priyanka Chopra to turn heads in her direction. It is the first American show to have an Indian national playing the lead role. She is the cynosure of her colleagues, as the ratings show, the ensembler which she helms is pulling off buoyant ratings; and the actress has established her credentials on US Primetime Television. Tagged as ?one of the fall?s hottest new shows, averaging a 1.8 rating in adults 18-49 and about 7 million viewers overall in same-day ratings for its first three episodes in its challenging?Sunday10 pm?timeslot,? according to Nielsen estimates. ?This Sunday night drama has ranked as the night?s No. 1 broadcast entertainment series in adults 18-49, boosting ABC?s 10 o?clock hour by almost 50%.??It has become a big gainer in delayed viewing too. Quantico is also the first American show to be aired for Indian audiences almost immediately after its US airing. Another first for Bollywood as well as for India is that an A-List movie actor like Priyanka Chopra is playing a lead in an international TV series. The actress has truly gone where no other Indian actor has gone before. There are other actors of Indian origin who appear on US television shows, but no Indian actor to date has straddled the two spheres of showbiz as Priyanka Chopra has ? Bollywood and the US. This action-packed whodunit thriller follows a diverse group of FBI?recruits who have arrived at Quantico headquarters for training. The trainees are the best, brightest and most vetted so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest terrorist attack on New York City since 9/11. With two episodes already telecast, Quantico will pull in those viewers who have been tuning in to Star World to watch earlier seasons of Homeland, etc. We probably glanced at the actor?s action capabilities in sequences in Don. With Quantico, she has gone full throttle with look and all. Priyanka Chopra has set a new frontier with Quantico for her counterparts to challenge and match, if not surpass. From Miss World 2000, Priyanka Chopra?s 15 years in Bollywood have taken a quantum leap. A moot question was after Mary Kom, what? The answer lies in Quantico. I was particularly struck by Imran Bhatti, the cabbie in Jackson Heights breaking down into unintelligible sobs in a sequence when he hears about his mother?s failing health in Pakistan. Here was this burly, quaint speaking man crying like a child. It is to the credit of the actor Noman Ejaz who enacts a most convincing sequence. As the multiple stories unfold, what lies at the heart is the all coveted Green Card, which any wannabe immigrant covets and will marry for that. As Jamshed?s ruse for a quick marriage is being caught out by Rizwan, Michelle?s long standing friend. So while Faisal Khan romped home as winner of Jhalak Reloaded, Big Boss is back with a new season and new inmates, channels are also devoting the extra hour on Saturday nights to their driving shows to get the plot moving. As usual TV watching is a mixed bag.
