World Health Day is observed each year on April 7. The theme chosen for this year is Vector-borne diseases. Vectors are organisms that transmit pathogens and parasites from one infected person (or animal) to another, causing serious diseases in human populations. Vector-borne diseases account for 17% of infectious diseases and are a major cause of human mortality. These diseases develop in areas where there is a lack of sanitation and unhealthy drinking water facility.

The most deadly vector-borne disease is malaria causing around 627,000 deaths in 2012. Dengue is another vector-borne disease which is growing its spanks
