The classic text is the millionth book from her UK Imagination Library reading initiative and was the first book for blind and partially-sighted children donated by the UK project. Launched in 1996, in Patron’s home county of Sevier, Tennessee, the Imaginary Library runs in the U.S. Canada, Australia, and the UK. The nonprofit program aims to foster a love of reading among preschool children and their families by directly providing them with high quality, age-appropriate books. The UK project launched in 2007 and partnered with the Royal National Institute for the Blind to complete the millionth book delivery. Since its inception, the program has mailed books to approximately 45,000 UK children.
