by The Daily Eye Team January 27 2016, 3:21 pm Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 38 secsBased on research conducted by USC Annenberg Media, Diversity and Social Change Initiative, The 4% is broken up into 6-short documentaries, each about five minutes long, that will air on Epix and across all its platforms in the spring. The study conducted by Dr. Stacy L. Smith found that across 1,300 top-grossing films from 2002 to 2014, only 4.1% of all directors were women. Over the past 85 years, just four women have been nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards with The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow the only woman to ever win the Oscar. Late last year, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission began interviewing female directors in Hollywood as part of its on-going and wide-ranging investigation into discrimination against female film and TV helmers.
