The truth is, too many kids are starting the day too hungry to learn. Without breakfast, these children are more likely to struggle in school, miss class, and get sick more often.
So why aren’t kids getting breakfast if we know it makes an impact on their health and education? Breakfast programs are underused because of a variety of issues. Parents, kids and school officials cite reasons like the stigma of eating breakfast alone in the cafeteria signaling you are poor, transportation problems such as school buses arriving too late for kids to take advantage of breakfast programs, and misperceptions about the value of serving breakfast in innovative ways like providing it in the classroom.
