Madurai film fest to open with Shridhar's 'Vande Mataram'

CHENNAI: Award-winning student-director Shridhar Sudhir's 'Vande Mataram' will be the inaugural film at the 18th Madurai documentary and short-film festival, to be held from December 6 to 10 in Madurai.
Organised by Marupakkam, an organisation of film-lovers across Tamil Nadu, at least 50 documentaries, short films, animation films and music videos will be screened at multiple venues during the five-day festival.
Besides screening, talk and discussion with film personalities will also be held.
The retrospective session will screen five films each of veteran filmmakers Amshan Kumar (director of award-winning Tamil film, Oruthi) and Stalin K from Goa. The `filmmaker in focus' session will screen Delhibased Sudheer Gupta's five important films while `women making films' will have films made by women. A special session to show films from Sri Lanka is also arranged.
