Earlier this month, she wrote an open letter questioning the uproar over Katrina Kaif being awarded the Smita Patil Memorial Award. Swara felt Katrina deserved the award, as she has proved herself in Bollywood.
The actor got involved in the debate only when her Twitter handle was tagged in a post opposing Katrina’s win. “There were some vicious and mean posts. People are so judgmental. They feel they can just attack anyone without the fear of consequences,” says Swara, adding, “Though I don’t know Katrina at all, I felt bad for her. She is a woman, a public figure like me, or bigger than me. She is part of my fraternity, and I didn’t think she deserved that. She is a successful star.”
