Cyclists start 2014 pedaling for charity

SMYRNA — More than 60 people started 2014 by burning calories for a cause during the Indoor Cycling for Charity event Wednesday at North Rutherford YMCA Ronald Reagan Family Center, according to organizers. Four stationary cycling sessions were held from 7 to 11 a.m. on the second floor of the YMCA facility in Smyrna, said Jessica Clark, an organizer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation who also teaches spin classes at the YMCA. Participants were encouraged to donate money to the JDRF and Progress, a nonprofit organization that provides care to senior citizens and adults with developmental disabilities, Clark said. The idea to host a charity event at the YMCA hatched between Clark and Crystal Martin, another spin instructor at the center who works for Progress, Martin said.
