The Academy Award's Best Animated Feature category has only been in
existence since 2002, and for its fifteenth year in 2017, it's seen a record-
breaking number of submissions.
With a total of five nominations to give, the Academy must whittle that
number down from an impressive 27 that are all eligible for the award.
One glance at the list and it becomes clear that animation has never been in
a more fruitful position.
Save for one or two (The Angry Birds Movie, Ice Age: Collision Course), the
majority of these films were beloved by critics and audiences alike; Pixar's
Finding Dory, Laika's Kubo and the Two Strings and Disney's Zootropolis.
