Now more than ever do we film fanatics need to acknowledge the marginalization of female directors. In addition to tying hard math to sexism, Maureen Dowd’s extensive The New York Times Magazinereport, “The Women of Hollywood Speak Out,” concluded that industry numbers are actually getting worse. Just 1.9 percent of the 100 top-grossing films of 2013 and 2014 were directed by women— a number so abysmal and laughable, one can’t help but wonder how it got this bad.
