Mumbai, June 2023: Whistling Woods International (WWI) School of Fashion celebrated a remarkable display of creativity and sustainability at its annual fashion graduation show, Aiyanna 2023. The event, which marked its 7th edition, captivated a packed audience of industry professionals, esteemed guests, and parents of the graduating batch.
The graduating students showcased their spectacular collections, which drew inspiration from various elements of life. Each student combined personal experiences and a variety of topics from an array of breath-taking colours of nature to futuristic concepts to match the theme, 'Eclectica'.
From Indian drapes inspired by the moon to gaming based on the afterlife, to Tamil culture and heritage to Alice-in-Wonderland, to a salute to COVID heroes, this year's graduating batch have left no stone unturned when it came to creating a large body of diverse, evocative, and technically challenging work. The students displayed an impressive variety of innovation by experimenting with unusual materials, inventive textile uses and the addition of non-textile components including fibre, silicone, and resin art, showcasing diversity and originality.
"Sustainability was a key focus throughout Aiyanna 2023," stated Meghna Ghai Puri, President, WWI, speaking about the event. “Our young student designers exhibited their dedication towards sustainable practices by producing environmentally friendly clothing using leftover materials and accent fabrics, projecting their ethos towards a better future and greener planet.”
At Aiyanna 2023, the students' designs went beyond conventions and provided a novel viewpoint on clothing. The collections embodied the transforming connections that have had such a profound effect on the designers’ personal development. In addition to serving as a forum for individual inspiration, Aiyanna 2023 also provided insight on significant societal problems. Many students bravely spoke out against body shaming, beauty standards, and prejudice.
The key highlight of this year’s show was Aastha Prajapati from the AngelXpress Foundation, who proudly walked the ramp as a shining example of WWI’s commitment towards cultivating meaningful association with various NGOs to offer a platform for aspiring talents, irrespective of social-economic divide.
"I witnessed future creative leaders in these young fashion creators. Keep following your heart with the quest of learning more", said Subhash Ghai, Founder & Chairman, WWI while congratulating the graduating batch of fashion students.
Wishing the graduating batch luck for their future endeavours, Jewellyn Alvares, HOD, School of Fashion advised, “Originality, Honesty & Integrity is what you must hold as the tenet of success.”
