Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Shri Prakash Javadekar has said that if students became aware of sustainable development and environment protection; it was the real message regarding protection of the environment. Speaking to children participating at the celebration of ?International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer? by National Museum of Natural History, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Javadekar emphasized that we need to make our Earth livable and dedicate ourselves for evolving a sustainable lifestyle.

Comparing the Ozone layer to a dulai/blanket, the Minister observed that it secured us. Every year, 16th September is observed as ?International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer?. UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) decided through a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1994 to observe this day to make people aware of issues related to depletion of Ozone layer and its destructive influence.

The theme for this year is ?Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On?. In order to sensitize the school children on the matters for preservation of Ozone Layer, National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change organizes various programmes and activities to mark the day. On the occasion, a painting and model making competition was organized pertaining to Ozone Layer Protection, Effects of Climate Change (Global Warming), Pollution and Life.
