It’s simple. We want an Olympic Games that does not harm children and their families.We all know that the financial benefits of organising major sporting events for host countries have been disputed.
Decaying Olympic stadiums in Greece have been seen as a symbol of that country’s economic woes, and Hamburg’s population even voted against a bid.
But what about the impact of these events on the local population?
Marquee sports events often cause human rights violations or exacerbate existing ones, with children particularly vulnerable. That includes children’s rights abuses.
