Code Red?s 100 episode milestone is worth taking note of. Pitched against the 10 pm to 11 pm saas-bahu sagas, the channel stuck its ground and kept it going. While any other channel could have sacrificed it on the altar of TRPs, Colors didn?t yield. This is also indicative that viewers too are looking beyond family dramas, at prime time.

Each night, Code Red has tackled heart rending human interest stories and taken on hard hitting social issues; all of which concern us. Commendably these narratives grip the viewer with as much intensity as would a fiction show. Yes, the audiences seem ready for the non-fiction genre and seem to welcome it. To be realistic, it doesn?t mean to signal great ratings, but that people are taking to such a show is relevant. Yes, the eyeballs-are-a-changing. From now on, Code Red has another milestone to tap ? 200 episodes; and please can Colors oblige us with a properly placed repeat telecast.

Talking of Code Red, the show?s anchor Sakshi Tanwar is likely to be back in a fiction show on Star Plus and another one on Sony. Wonder what?s next for her.

A show that?s cut a lot of ground is Life OK?s Mahakumbh ? Ek Rahasya, Ek Kahaani. Arvind Babbal has made a headway, keeping the ratings charts moving up. This mythological thriller was initially planned to be a start-to-finish 120 episode show. This meant that it would have ended on July 9. News is that, the channel?s upbeat about the recent surge in the ratings, and has granted the show an extension of 32 episodes i.e.: two more months.

What has gone in favour of Mahakumbh is the really fresh concept on Indian television. A subject which hitherto has been more suited for a film. Instead, the channel and the producer took a gamble, which paid off richly. Arvind Babbal?s high production standards, a well paced narrative and the high octane action have resulted in Indian Television?s biggest breakout in the fiction genre.

With a lot of newly launched shows biting the dust in the face of competition, Mahakumbh ? Ek Rahasya, Ek Kahaani has rewritten concept guidelines with its edge- of- the- seat thrills. The bar has been raised, it will take some doing to match it, let alone go beyond it.

Two shows which have the viewers in suspense are Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar and Dil Ki Baatein Dil Hi Jaane. Twists come in the way, just as Neil is about to propose to Ragini on her birthday for an ?ever after? new lease. The intrusion of Ronnie, Suhaani?s biological father, with maligning evidence throws the celebration out of gear. Ragini storms out. At the same time, their son Aarav is in trouble with the loan shark. Nachiket and Ragini have to weather this storm buffeted more by Pam, Nivedita and Ronnie. Dil Ki Baatein?. Has little Aarav run away t in search of Ram Ahuja his father. One can imagine how avidly the viewers will watch both soaps in the coming weeks!

The weekend too seems to be packed with a different kind of action with Nach Baliye and India?s Got Talent. Star Plus decided to re-format one of their most popular reality shows, Nach Baliye. Judges Shilpa Shetty, Sajid Khan and Terrence Lewis have been replaced by Chetan Bhagat, Preity Zinta and Marzi Pestonji. Also, the contestants will be locked inside the house and will only be allowed to meet their partners during rehearsals. They will perform certain tasks and these episodes will be aired on weekdays. While performances will be aired on weekends making this another first -- Nach Baliye will now air seven days a week. And, Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms is producing the show this year. Hardly has the show gone on air and Rashmi Desai filled a recent episode with melodrama.

India?s Got Talent continues its track record with sizzling acts and a trio of judges who are as entertaining as the acts they are judging.
