Freeheld' Opens Arthouse Film Festival

When the Arthouse Film Festival enters its 25th year this fall, it will be marking the milestone with a highly anticipated dramatization of local history: “Freeheld,” chronicling Ocean County events that made national headlines a decade ago, will open the festival with screenings Monday, Sept. 28, at AMC Mountainside 10 in Mountainside and Tuesday, Sept. 29, at AMC Monmouth Mall 15 in Eatontown. Oscar winner Julianne Moore stars in “Freeheld” as Detective Lt. Laurel Hester of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Hester of Point Pleasant died in 2006 at 49 of lung cancer after fighting to leave her pension to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree.
