the circle speaks, seeks a goal

a hole, carved off its own soul
trends! trends after trends
ad infinitum, without ends
some find it delicious
some call it malicious
some a Catch-22, vicious

transgress in quick success
into a world of excess
a veritable human zoo
the land of Catch Twenty-two
haft it! clasp it! the circle's got it--
this world, all under its grasp
draft it! graft it! the galaxy's got it
this circle, all under its arts and craft

there's plenty of room
for who created whom
reign in the pain
is god within its domain?
with this you need to grapple
did the zero byte the apple
and made Adam, or is Eve
the one, your pet peeve
the DNA of this world
in circles of zeroes and ones is twirled
is this a trap to strap the circle
to make it clink, blink but not think
to keep on rolling without stalling
and this rolls us once again into the room
filled with questions of who controls whom:
the circle of life, or the life of the circle
the same hole in the soul?
is this life's goal--ad continuum infinitum
hunters, gatherers, machines, monsters
is evolution its ultimate goal--
the circle's soul-shaped hole?
is that why it's round
like the life-giving sun?
like the life-sustaining earth
like death that goes around
to be born again?
in the circle of life
