16th Mumbai Film Festival associates with Pinkerton to curb piracy

Mumbai: October 1, 2014: The 16th Mumbai Film Festival, organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), has established a high point in the battle against film piracy by joining hands with Pinkerton, one of the oldest and most experienced corporate risk management firms worldwide. This initiative is aimed to protect the interests of film production companies, independent producers, film distributors and cinema operators participating in the Mumbai Film Festival from the ever threatening risk of piracy.

Pinkerton was established by Allan Pinkerton in the year 1850. Today, it has presence in over 100 locations worldwide.  Pinkerton caters to niche services of risk management, intelligence and investigations including Intellectual Property Protection. The company was established in 1850, providing effective solutions to various media houses and showbiz companies to provide support during production, secure screening to prevent copying and enforcement actions in case of breach.

Today, film piracy has become the biggest and most insidious threat to the future of cinema worldwide. Film piracy has become a widespread problem that eats into a film’s profit. Delinquents have taken to the internet as platform to ensure the systemic destruction of traditional forms of distribution channels such as DVD’s, cinema halls, etc.

The Mumbai Film Festival is committed to combat piracy with Pinkerton’s anti-piracy mechanism that has been adopted at the forthcoming edition. Pinkerton aims to endeavor in building solidarity between India and the international cinematic fraternity.

The 16th edition of the Mumbai film festival organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) will be held from 14-21 October 2014 at PVR Cinemas Andheri, Cinemax Versova as the main venue. The festival has a lineup of about 185 films from over 65 countries.
