The Beyond the Horizon national motorcycle campaign reaches Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, bringing together celebrated cultural leaders, educators, and grassroots communities to champion mental health, youth well-being, and meaningful conversations across India together.

National Campaign Mobilizes Mumbai and Navi Mumbai; Renowned Cultural and Social Leaders Gather to Champion Mental Health

Spanning a transformative journey from Delhi to Kanyakumari and back, Beyond the Horizon: A Ride for Resilience is an ambitious national motorcycle campaign traversing over 50 cities across India to conduct more than 100 grassroots sessions. Formally flagged off on August 20, 2026, from New Delhi, the pan-India initiative brings open dialogue, youth well-being, and social support directly into local neighbourhoods, educational institutions, and public forums to dismantle the deep-seated social stigmas surrounding mental health. 

Marking a pivotal milestone in its cross-country journey, the national campaign completed a series of impactful engagements across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai over Days 10, 11, and 12 before embarking on the next leg of its journey toward Pune.

The campaign team arrived in Mumbai on the evening of August 29, hosted at the YWCA International Centre on Madam Cama Road through the gracious support of Ms. Theresa George, General Secretary of YWCA Mumbai. The team was warmly received by distinguished legal and development consultant, and Anhad Trustee, Leena Dabiru.

An Evening of Cultural Solidarity

A major highlight of the Mumbai leg took place on the evening of August 30, hosted at the residence of celebrated theatre icon, veteran communicator, and dynamic social advocate Dolly Thakore.

The evening brought together an extraordinary group of prominent cultural figures, public intellectuals, and mental health advocates, including acclaimed actor and director Nandita Das (accompanied by her son Vihaan), eminent theatre and film personality Ratna Pathak Shah, prominent mental health philanthropist and Director of the Mariwala Health Initiative Raj Mariwala, distinguished poet and publisher Bina Sarkar Ellias alongside acclaimed photographer Rafiq Ellias, filmmaker Minnie Vaid, senior journalists Mohd Wajihuddin and Yogesh Pawar, acclaimed filmmaker Sahir Raza, Leena Dabiru, Kumkum Nongrum, and Lalit Bhushan.

During the gathering, campaign lead Seher Hashmi presented the core mission of the Delhi-to-Kanyakumari expedition, sharing profound insights on community resilience, youth well-being, and her personal journey navigating Borderline Personality Disorder. The presentation sparked a deep, multi-hour dialogue among the attendees on dismantling societal stigmas surrounding mental illness.

Acclaimed filmmaker Sahir Raza took charge of the evening’s arrangements with the precision of a seasoned director on set, personally orchestrating the entire gathering to perfection. Beyond ensuring flawless logistics, he curated a memorable culinary experience, delighting guests with specially prepared, authentic qorma and biryani alongside a thoughtful pre-birthday celebration for his sister Seher.

Following the formal dialogue, the evening concluded on a warm and joyful note. Once the majority of guests had departed, host Dolly Thakore, along with her household staff, long-time associate Kumkum, and her driver, gathered outside to enthusiastically inspect Seher’s custom Royal Enfield motorcycle. The moment turned into a spirited, impromptu photo session as everyone posed alongside the machine carrying the campaign’s message across the country.

Grassroots Outreach in Dharavi

On the morning of August 31, the team continued its grassroots outreach with an interactive workshop at the renowned NGO SNEHA in Dharavi, engaging with community workers and local youth. A heartfelt note of gratitude to Rama Shyam and the dedicated team at SNEHA, Dharavi, for opening their doors to the campaign. Their deep-rooted community work and commitment to grassroots well-being provided an invaluable platform for meaningful dialogue on mental resilience.

The team then proceeded to the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Navi Mumbai, where over 200 enthusiastic students participated in an expansive session focused on youth mental health, emotional well-being, and building peer-support systems.

Their extraordinary support and prompt initiative in hosting the campaign at very short notice enabled over 200 vibrant students to engage in critical conversations on youth mental health.

Measurable Impact and The Road Ahead

An initial analysis of the feedback forms collected from NIFT Navi Mumbai highlighted the significant impact of the campaign’s youth outreach. Notably, 43.5% of the participating students reported that this was their very first time attending any session on mental health. The response to the interactive format was overwhelmingly positive, with 91.3% rating the session as excellent or good, and an equal 91.3% affirming that they had gained fresh, meaningful insights on emotional well-being and self-care.

Following the successful programs in Navi Mumbai, the campaign team departed for Pune to continue its nationwide dialogue on mental health resilience. The team is expected to reach Pune late this evening.
