One such issue was the concern regarding baby elephant Sunder, who was kept as a captive at a temple in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra for seven years. Several celebrities joined the cause of letting this giant baby breathe in free air. It was earlier reported that the then 14-year-old Sunder had ‘massive wound’, which was a result of constant tying with heavy chains”. The Bombay High Court has ordered the authorities to implement a state government order to release Sunder into the wild that was issued in August 2012. Animal welfare organisation PETA had been constantly campaigning for Sunder’s release since 2012. Bachchan senior recently took to Twitter and posted: “@PetaIndia has turned elephant Sunder’s home into free-roaming, forested sanctuary… feeling good I contributed to this cause!”
