Synopsis

A group of women in post-communist Cambodia fight an uphill battle against forced evictions. The government grants land concessions to powerful companies to use for commercial purposes. Some of these lands belong to the people. Facing threats, intimidations, and a corrupt justice system, those who dare to protect their land risk their lives doing so. The film keeps a close track on the district Boeung Kak residents’ struggle, while also letting Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and the opposition have their say.

Director’s Statements
“It is an honor for us to participate to Flash point festival, specialy because it is the first screening in India. We would like to thanks Movies That Matter, Matter Of Act, that supported us for this screening. We also thank Amnesty International for supporting the film. The forced evictions are a problem that touches all continents today. Tep Vanny, the activist of our movie talked with us about India: She was aware of the problems that are happening in Orissa today. We hope that the government will find a solution for these villagers who only want to be including with the development.”

Director’s Bio
Beginning her career as an actress, CHRISTINE CHANSOU participated in theater plays written and directed by Israel Horovitz, and cinema and television films directed by Christophe Lamotte, Camille Brottes, Manuel Boursinhac, Olivier Marchal, Sigried Alnoy Vincent Trintignant-Corneau.

Started his career as assistant director, in 1993, VINCENT TRINTIGNANT CORNEAU directed his first short film Gift of Rupture in 2008, featuring renowned French actors, François Cluzet Christine Chansou. In 2010, he directed a mini-series, Fries at Baraque. In 2011, he became a producer and head of Divali Films, created by legendary filmmaker Alain Corneau.
Even A Bird Needs A Nest is their first production under Divali Films.
