Fame and Philanthropy is the name of one of two ambitious new charity events planned around this year’s Academy Awards. It will take place on Oscar night and will feature an address by Avatar directorJames Cameron and appearances by Charlize Theron and other celebrities.The other major Oscar week event is Unite 4 Humanity 2014, which will feature an appearance by former president Bill Clinton. It is being heldFeb. 27 on the Sony Pictures Entertainment lot (Sony is renting out its facility but is not otherwise involved).

These new events join a number of other galas, dinners and parties revolving around the Oscars, including the Elton John AIDS Foundation viewing party, which also raise funds for worthy causes.
