Kangana Ranaut may have played the lead in Revolver Rani, but real life Manisha Shekhawat, who “triggered” in the flick as TV anchor, Payal Parihar, has emerged an icon in her society where early marriage and dowry are norms and education for the girl child is a big no, no. Her grit and determination has changed the heart of her community elders who now pledge not to encourage child marriages and ensure that every girl will complete her education.

A resident of Kalawar Road in the city, Manisha’s screen name is Mishkka Singh. Fearing early marriage, Mishkka had left for Delhi after completing her Class XII in 2006, thanks to her brother who was supportive of her plans. Her keen interest in acting drew her to Anupam Kher’s acting school in Mumbai. No one from her community had even imagined that a girl who studied in a government school and dropped out from college to fulfill her dreams would make it big in life.
