Singapore International School, Mumbai is buzzing with excitement and the energy of youth as it gears up to host the Young Round Square Conference (South Asia and Gulf Region) from the 29th ofJanuary to the 1st of February.Round Square is a world-wide association of schools on five continents sharing unique and ambitious goals. Students attending Round Square schools make a strong commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility. The Round Square approach promotes six IDEALS of learning: Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service.

SIS’s conference title is CODE GREEN: The Power of One to Make a Difference. 20 schools from across the country, including schools from Bangladesh and Oman are attending. Three hundred plus delegates will spend four days discussing and sharing ideas about contemporary environmental issues like ‘Waste Management’ and ‘Innovative Farming’. They will examine existing concerns and draft statements that outline ideas that offer a solution. Aiding, guiding and above all inspiring them through this process are noted speakers who themselves contribute to environment related causes. Among them are Bittu Sahgaland Sunjay Monga.Bittu Sahgal is an Environmental activist and the founding editor of Sanctuary Asia, India’s premier wildlife and ecology magazine. Sunjay Monga, is a conservationist, photographer, and naturalist based in Mumbai in India.He is associated with the Bombay Natural History Society and has written columns in newspapers on the need for conservation, poaching.The delegates will also be involved in hands on activities like avisit to the Esselworld to view their environmental initiatives.

SIS is excitedly awaiting their guests from across the country and we look forward to an exciting conference filled with dialogue and learning and above all reflection. The conference closes with the students drawing up a conference statement.
