This year, stars wore black to the Golden Globes ceremony in support of the Time's Up Movement. Actresses wore black gowns standing in solidarity with victims of sexual assault and harassment. Many men also wore Time's Up pin badges or black shirts with their suits.

Something similar happened at the Grammy's. After the success of the black dress initiative, the music awards show followed suit and showed support for the Time’s Up movement by inviting stars to wear white roses to this year’s award ceremony.

Three hundred female Hollywood actors, agents, writers, directors, producers and entertainment executives – including Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, and Reese Witherspoon – kicked off the new year with a coordinated effort to counter systemic sexual harassment in the entertainment business and US workplaces, starting the Time's Up Campaign.

Voices in Entertainment — a group formed by Meg Harkins, SVP of Marketing at Roc Nation and Karen Rait, Rhythmic Promotion, Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records and made up of 15 women in the industry — encouraged their colleagues to participate. “As we are inspired by the #TimesUp campaign, we are encouraging the artists that we work with and our colleagues attending the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in New York City to wear a white rose to the ceremony on Sunday, January 28th,” read a letter from the group. “We choose the white rose because historically it stands for hope, peace, sympathy, and resistance.”

Rita Ora was among the stars showing solidarity on the red carpet; she sported a larger rose on the lapel of her black dress. Camila Cabello made her support known with a bunch of small white roses on a ring on her finger. Kelly Clarkson carried a stemmed rose and Lady Gaga pinned hers to her shoulder.

At a pre-Grammys party on Thursday night, Ora talked about her decision to wear the white rose to the Grammys. “The white rose for so many years has been such a peaceful symbol in so many different parts of the world and for me solidarity’s so important now,” she said. “I thought that it was just a very graceful way of showing support to, I guess, everything that’s going on in Hollywood and I really do believe that the more visibility it gets, the more I think we can help, so that’s why I wanted to do it.”

"It was an unmistakable visual statement of solidarity, written in style," as The New York Times calls it.

And it underscored not just the message of the song, but the fact that once the door has been opened to using fashion to make more than just a pretty paparazzi-snagging picture, it’s almost impossible to go back.

Kelly Clarkson and Miley Cyrus, ended up carrying their roses in their hands. Ms. Cabello, the young Cuban-American singer whose affecting speech about Dreamers and her own history, made after Kesha’s appearance, was another powerful moment, attached hers to her handbag. Now, we look forward to a similar #TimesUp movement in Bollywood!
