Govt Successful in Reducing Maternal Mortality Rate
by The Daily Eye Team June 17 2014, 6:27 am Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 39 secsThe Health Department is moving ahead with action plans which have been envisaged to cut down the maternal mortality ratio in the state to 40 per 1,000, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said after inaugurating the World Blood Donor day function at VJT Hall here on Saturday. “The government was successful in reducing the maternal mortality rate from 82 to 66 by upgrading the hospitals and by implementing the ‘Ammayum Kunjum’ project. There has also been a considerable reduction in the infant mortality rate. The government aims at bringing down the rate to eight within five years,” the Minister said. Mayor K Chandrika presided over the function. Kerala Aids Control Society Additional Project director B Ushakumari, District Medical Officer K M Sirabudheen, among others, spoke.
