Mother’s hair could hold key to preventing underdeveloped babies
by The Daily Eye Team November 12 2014, 6:34 pm Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 27 secsScientists at Gravida, Auckland University’s National Centre for brain Growth and Development, have discovered that chemicals in the hair of pregnant women may increase their risk of delivering small babies.
The internationally novel discovery, made by analysing human hair for the first time instead of blood, urine or tissue, could, in future, help determine which babies are likely to be born underweight.
The discoveries may also provide pointers for better maternal healthcare so that more babies can be born higher weight, and healthy.
