Nasal spray flu vaccine extended to two million children
by The Daily Eye Team October 8 2014, 2:19 pm Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 44 secsTwo million children are being targeted for the flu vaccine this year to prevent serious illness and protect vulnerable elderly grandparents All children aged between two and four can have the jab-free flu vaccine this year, experts said, to prevent serious illness. Around two million children in the UK will be offered the nasal spray vaccine as part of the programme to vaccinate 19m people in England, including the elderly, those with long-term illnesses and pregnant women. Children are known as super-spreaders and it is thought that by preventing large outbreaks of flu spreading through nurseries and primary schools, families may be protected as well. This year four-year-olds are being added to the vaccination programme but the aim is that all children will be given the annual vaccine eventually. Only four in ten children aged two and three last year were vaccinated.
