India accounts for more than one fourth neonatal global death figures. A neonatal death is defined as a death during the first 28 days of life (0-27 days). Early neonatal death refers to a death between 0-6 days after birth. Late neonatal death refer to a death between 7-27 days after birth. Maternal death can be defined as the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or incidental causes.
