Target Rejects Gender Labels For Toy Sections After Consumer Outcry

In a blog post published Friday, the retailer announced that it will stop suggesting some products based on a shopper’s gender in sections like toys, entertainment and home. Some shoppers had recently “raised important questions” about such signs, according to the blog post. In June, an Ohio shopper tweeted a photo of aisle signage for “building sets” and “girls’ building sets” with a blunt caption: “Don’t do this, Target.” That image was retweeted nearly 3,000 times and the company said at the time that it was reviewing the issue.
