On the first day of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) immunization drive in Trichy district, 436 children below the age of 1 in urban and rural areas were administered the injectable vaccine on Wednesday.
The next immunization will be on Friday. Though the injectable immunization was rolled out in some districts on May 4, it commenced in Trichy and few other districts on Wednesday following the arrival of IPV stock. The parents of all the children below 12 months of age should bring their wards to the nearest primary health centres to give them the vaccine twice - at 6th week and 14th week from the date of birth. Usually, the oral polio vaccination (OPV) is being provided to the children below five years of age in the regular immunization and in the nation-wide pulse polio drive every year.
