377. Unnatural offences: Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Life imprisonment for choosing to do with your body what you desire. Our government needs to realize that it is not here to administer our beliefs and ideologies or to dictate our lives. A bizarre reality we find ourselves in today, wherein our Supreme Court judges find us all incapable of making our own decisions and threaten to exploit their power if one chooses to go against their “morals”. We are certainly not living in a democracy if one must fear the consequences of one’s desire to copulate as they choose.

If left unchallenged this becomes yet another conquest for the government; strengthening their belief that they can command the people as they choose. Today it is the gay community that must suffer our government’s bigotry; in the future it could be all of us. Along with all the other absurd laws that seem to make India a hopeless, entangled despotism; money seems to be the best enabler. It gives one the power to do as they choose. So our future generation must emulate this desire and be money hungry, driven by their desire to do as they choose at whatever cost.

Oh Wait!

That is the world we live in today. Everyone is seeking money not just for their comforts and pleasures but to have privileges like crashing your car in the middle of the night and getting away with it as if it never happened.

How long do we plan to be bound by this spell?

A government this corrupt and lethargic must be replaced. Because of their constraining and archaic laws we all have to reason with guile officers who always contrive ways in which the work can be done faster through procedures that tend to lighten our pockets.

We cannot accept the current conditions simply because our world can be better. We as humans are gifted to create the most serene ambience around us, which every individual cherishes. Thus it is our role to make our world a better, calmer and a more accepting place so that each individual can experience his one and only life achieving what he/she desires to, aspires to. As a collective we have the potential to achieve a liberating life for each one of us.

We must make sure that this situation is not pushed under the rug and tackled with on our way to a better future.

I support the freedom of choice and I hope you do too.
