by Editorial Desk August 15 2023, 12:00 am Estimated Reading Time: 3 mins, 37 secsThe theme song for the Mere Ghar Aa Ke To Dekho campaign, in the voice of Apurva Gouri, written by Gauhar Raza and directed by Sahir Raza was released today, reports The Daily Eye #Newsdesk.
Music and songs play a major role in any campaign, so all the 26 participating states were requested to work with local singers and lyricists. A number of songs have been written and they are at various stages of production. The theme song released today is written by Gauhar Raza, a retired scientist, a leading Urdu poet, social activist and documentary filmmaker. It calls upon listeners to visit each other’s houses by repeating the tagline 'Mere Ghar Aake Toh Dekho', the doors of my house are wide open, waiting for you to come. It is an emotional appeal to stop those who spread hatred and dishonour the country by a simple act of coming together.
The song is a result of many rounds of discussion, which went on while preparing for the campaign. The message is emotional, direct and simple. It was written to appeal to everyone, with a focus on today’s youth. Young artists were approached by Anhad to come together, pro bono and compose, sing, record, film and produce the song.
The song is sung and composed by a young artist Apurva Gouri. Apurva Gouri is a 21 year old Pianist, singer-songwriter born and brought up in Rohtak, Haryana. She believes that all members of society have different realities and she strives to understand and portray them through her music. As a part of that journey, Apurva has written 13 songs and 3 pieces for the Piano thus far. Her music is often characterised by improvisation on a simple motif. After graduating from Lady Shri Ram College, Apurva is now headed to Berkeley College of Music in Boston to pursue a full time education in music.
The song is produced by Zico A.K.A Soutrik Chakraborty. A composer, music director and singer of repute. He has composed music for several web series like Little Things, The Married Woman, etc. It was recorded and shot at TRNM studio in Rohtak, Haryana. A skilled editor, Sonu Kumar works as a freelancer with several production houses in Delhi and the video is edited by him.
Sahir Raza, the director of the video, is a director-cinematographer working in the Mumbai film industry. He is known for the web series Aisha My Virtual Girlfriend, The Married Woman, Feels Like Home, Highway Love and others. The post production work was done at the Credence Media Solutions Pvt Ltd.
The campaign, Mere Ghar Aake To Dekho, has been designed to help counter and change preconceived notions and unquestioned stereotypes about different communities, on the lines of, but not limited to, class, caste, religion, sexual orientation, language, ethnicity, region and disability.
The objective is simple: people visit the home of someone from another community, spend a few hours with them, have water, tea or a meal together. This modest act will go a long way in breaking existing socially constructed barriers.
The warmth of a home, sharing a meal together and open conversations have the power to spark life-long friendships that provide a bulwark against persistent political efforts to divide people. In absence of direct positive interaction with one another, people are more disposed to creating, believing and circulating false constructs of the ‘other’, thereby feeding into established narratives of prejudice and hate.
After conceiving the campaign the next step was how to reach out to people across India. Anhad activists, led by Shabnam Hashmi, initiated discussions with like-minded groups across India and worked on a social media strategy with the help of professionals like Vinta Nanda, Filmmaker and Editor of The Daily Eye.
Both processes ran simultaneously - influencers and celebrities were approached to endorse the idea, videos and posters were created. Soon videos started coming in from well-known artists, actors, singers and poets like Ratna Pathak Shah, TM Krishna, Joy Sengupta, Nandita Das, Kishore Kumar G, Avijit Dutt, Ankur Tewari, Dolly Thakore, Gauhar Raza, Sreelekha Mitra, M D Pallavi and K Satchidanandan.
