The world watches as violence and anarchy spread, with Palestine at the epicentre of human suffering. This piece views the global complicity in these ongoing tragedies and the failure of leadership. Humra Quraishi writes…

A World in Chaos

Witnessing the unprecedented spread of anarchy today, I recall the powerful words of Gulzar Saab. He once remarked that if you were to pick up a day's newspaper, it would be so soaked in reports of violent killings that just by squeezing it, blood would spill out. He said this during a book launch in New Delhi just before 2017 ended. Today, the situation is far worse, with violence not only widespread in our land but in many others, affecting countless lives.

As global anarchy escalates to unprecedented levels, the tragic plight of Palestine stands as a stark reminder of humanity's failures. Despite the world's attention, the violence continues unabated, with daily images of devastation searing into our collective conscience. Why have world leaders, particularly those in the West, failed to halt this relentless genocide? This article finds out the underlying causes, the historical context, and the disturbing role of global powers in perpetuating these atrocities.

Palestine: The Epicentre of Human Tragedy

The most tragic of these conflicts is in Palestine, where the nightmare is relentless, with no ceasefire in sight. Human tragedies deepen daily as images of Palestinians dying from injuries, hunger, and despair refuse to leave our consciousness, penetrating our souls.

Yet, the so-called world leaders fail to halt this genocide. Are they blind to the constant killings and bombings that spare neither refugee tents, schools, nor hospitals? The truth is, without American support, Israel's might would crumble, as emphasized by former Palestinian envoys to India, Dr Khaled Sheikh and Osama Musa. The growing anger towards America in the Arab world is palpable, as the masses realize that American policies could one day destroy them. Arab governments may tread cautiously, but the people speak openly of the 'invisible army' of America and its allies, intruding into their lands.

Global Leadership: The Failure to Act

Academics have uncovered the roots of terror organizations like ISIS, the Taliban, and Al-Qaeda, revealing that they were established by American and Israeli intelligence within the Muslim world. With internal strife and civil war tearing these countries apart, leaderless masses have no means to fight the masterminds, especially under proxy governments.

When I interviewed Clovis Maksoud, a well-known Arab academic and former Arab League ambassador, he explained how Arab nations have come to recognize the destructive intentions of outside forces. He pointed out the flawed dependence of Arab states on the U.S., based on the false belief that only America can make Israel address the Palestinian issue. Israel has violated all international norms, never declaring its boundaries since 1967, and has given itself the license to expand its settlements, defying U.N. resolutions with impunity.

Saif al-Islam, son of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, was critical of American expansionism. In an interview I conducted in 2001, he condemned the U.S. for imposing embargoes, bombing, and attacking other countries, leaving smaller nations to view this as aggression.

Today, America is no longer an outsider in many Arab lands; it has become an insider due to its expansionist plans and strategic policies.

Arab World’s Anger

Now, let's reflect on today's reality. The Indian government's apparent tilt towards Israel and its allies has been clear since 2014, a stark contrast to the policies of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Nehru's vision made India a strong ally of the Arab world, with a clear stand on the Middle East and Palestine. The bonds that once united India with the Arab world have faded, replaced by a growing disconnect.

Historical Context: Shifting Allegiances in India

I vividly recall the warmth and solidarity between India and Palestine, exemplified by the warm embrace between Yasser Arafat and Indira Gandhi during a reception in New Delhi. Those were the days when India’s close ties with Palestine were unshakable.

I also remember the grand receptions hosted by Iraqi envoys in New Delhi, before Iraq was devastated by American and Allied Forces under the false pretext of searching for weapons of mass destruction. Iraq, once a proud nation with a rich cultural heritage, was reduced to ruins.

Witnessing a Dark Chapter in History

Today, many Arab countries are fighting for survival, ravaged by externally sponsored intruders who have exploited the old Western tactic of creating civil wars, provoking local communities to destroy one another.

We are living through a dark chapter of history, where Palestinians are being brutally killed in a relentless genocide, with no end in sight.
