While 2017 was an average year for Bollywood, we cannot miss talking about the high point – Newton, a Rajkumar Rao starrer satire film was an entry to the prestigious Oscars. Similarly, we had some bold films which despite repetitive censoring appeared on screen, we are talking about Lipstick Under My Burkha. Not to forget, we finally know why Katappa killed Bahubali.

Though Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan couldn't keep the magic alive on screen with their movies, some actors took us by surprise - Varun Dhawan in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Ayushmaan Khurrana in Bareilly Ki Barfi and living legend Irfhan Khan in Hindi Medium were a delight to see.

We are very hopeful for 2018 and the films that shall be released throughout the year, the January releases are quite promising as well.

  • PadMan:PadMan is inspired by the life of Coimbatore-based Arunachalam Muruganantham who strived to find a cheaper alternative to manufacture affordable sanitary napkins for the women of his village. Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte directed by R Balki - this movie is only going to be extraordinary. The movie celebrates a real-life superhero who sets to do something that doesn't just break barriers, but also provides a platform for a topic which is still considered taboo for mst.

  • Aiyaary: An East Indian colonel has 36 hours to capture his former protege a rogue major who can bring down the government. A Neeraj Pandey classic, this movie has a release date of 26th January and stars Manoj Vajpayee, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, definitely a movie to look forward to.

  • Kalakaandi: Call it dark or black comedy, Kalakaandi has us stirred up with different emotions. We are also excited to see a different side of Saif Ali Khan. The film has been written by Akshat Verma, writer of the 2011 movie Delhi Belly. What happens when you find out you have stomach cancer? A movie on the celebration of life, it is much needed in this sometimes-gloomy world.

  • 1921: 1920 was a breakthrough when it came to sensible horror movies in India. Fine actors and a good story made it one of the best Bollywood horror movie. We are hoping the same from 1921 - It stars Karan Kundra and Zareen Khan and is directed by Vikram Bhatt.

We are gearing ourselves for a blockbuster year for Bollywood with films like Pari, Raazi, Robert 2.0, Dhadak and the much awaited Padmavati.
