UNICEF India Celebrity Advocate, Kareena Kapoor Khan has also lent her support to this initiative. It is four years since the historic Right to Free & Compulsory Education (RTE) Act that ensures free and compulsory education for children in the age group 6-14 years, was enacted by the Government of India. Over the years, there has been a felt need to expand the focus beyond quantity and accelerate the shift from ‘Right of Access to Education’ to ‘Right to Learn and quality education’.
UNICEF remains committed to advocating for child friendly school spaces that ensure secure, safe, rights-based, quality education, for each and every child. The partnership with Groupon will generate funds to support this cause. Through this partnership Groupon will reach out to its customers in India to donate an amount between Rs. 499 to Rs. 799. For every donation made on the site, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bollywood actress and UNICEF Celebrity Advocate for Education, will give an equivalent amount, thereby doubling the donation.
