And when orcas rebel and kill their trainers, as Tilikum did at SeaWorld Orlando, their captivity becomes tragic for people, too. “Marine mammals are some of the most intelligent, social creatures on the planet. They are meant to roam the open oceans, not be forced to interact with people in an area that, to them, is the size of a large tub.”“Orcas held captive at SeaWorld spend decades trapped in tiny tanks, swimming in endless circles and forced to perform meaningless tricks for gawking spectators,” added PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk. “At circuses such as Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, terrified baby elephants are torn away from their mothers and struck with sharp bullhooks until they submit to workers.
