Thespo 16 brings ‘Tamasha of Thespo’

~ Orientation Meets Begin; Mumbai Orientation on July 14 at the historic Prithvi Theatre ~

Mumbai, July 7, 2014: Thespo 16, the spectacular event for the young Nautankibaazof India is back and the word is already out among people who are eager to participate. The first Orientation Meet for the 16th season is scheduled for July 14, 2014 at 4pm at the celebrated Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai. Thespo invites anyone and everyone who is below the age of 25 years and has an inclination for Theatre and also those who are willing to showcase their talent either through Acting, Direction, Music, Writing, Designing, Photography, or any other theatre related activity.

The Orientation meetings are organized as the first part of Thespo’s mandate to interact with budding and potential participants. These gatherings help to share information about Thespo, its past activities, brief people on how they can participate in the movement and what’s lined up for Thespo 16. It draws attention to the wide range of activities being conducted so that interested youngsters can maximize their participation in Thespo by either staging a play or participating in a short performance, a Mime, Poetry Reading or Monologues. One can even attend workshops, design posters, write articles for the Thespo Magazine or join the organizing team.

The Orientation Meetings are a point of contact as well as a roadmap to the annual journey of the buzzing affair. Thespo, which is a grand platform for young performing artists, witnesses a flock of people each year from different cities and cultures having one thing in common – love for theatre! A thrilling atmosphere where nascent actors, dancers, musicians and writers gel with people having similar passion; it’s a perfect place for the youth looking forward to enhance their talent, share their ideas and of course get noticed!

Manan Mehta, Thespo co-ordinator, from QTP comments, “Theatre is fun & exciting, and we want to share that with young people. Hence, our tagline for the year is “Plug-in to the Tamasha”. For the Thespo 16 Orientation Meeting we have designed a special programme that is not only informative but highly participative. Attendees will get to hear about the festival; how they can get involved; interact with former Thespo legends; as well as pick the brain of a few theatre professionals. Thespo is about recognizing, training and showcasing young talent, so all our activities aim to do just that.

Writers, Directors, Actors, Musicians, College Students, Youth Theatre Groups, Professional Theatre Groups, Journalists, Theatre Lovers, Thespo Alumni and Friends of Thespo (FOT), the gates are open for all to come and find out how you can be a part of the next generation of theatre-wallahs.

Amtya Goradia, director of The E.Q. which made it to Thespo 15 shares: “We were overjoyed to know that we had been selected as a part of Thespo 15. The hard work we had put in for months had finally paid off. But that’s when the cookie started to crumble to the point of where we even considered pulling out. That is until Thespo’s Shruti Shridharan showed up for the Mentorship Sessions. Along with her mentoring and her workshops, she also brought in a very positive vibe. She showed us the direction we needed to walk towards and got us to perform a very successful show at Prithvi. A month later at Thespo@Prithvi, Amygo started its string of successful commercial shows- something we hadn’t done before. A good start always ends up being a good journey. And Thespo has given us a great journey.

The Thespo 16 Orientation Meeting will be held at seven cities across India which are Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Delhi (in order). For more information, visit www.thespo.org.
