On July 1, 2024, Rahul Gandhi stood before the Lok Sabha as the Leader of the Opposition, marking a significant shift in India's political landscape. His speech addressed the pressing issues facing our nation, reflected on his journey, and set the tone for a new era of governance and unity.

In his address, he critiqued the ruling NDA government's policies, highlighting the Agnipath scheme, the NEET controversy, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) dilemma, the turmoil in Manipur, and the far-reaching consequences of the 2016 demonetization. These policies have created an atmosphere of fear and division, adversely affecting the lives of millions of Indians.

One of the key themes of his speech was the distinction between Hinduism and Hindutva. As a devout follower of Shiva, he emphasized that Hinduism's inclusive nature stands in stark contrast to the divisive ideology of Hindutva. He said that the Congress party's election symbol, the hand, embodies the 'abhaya mudra' seen in the images of Lord Shiva, Guru Nanak, Buddha, and Mahavira, symbolizing peace and protection for all.

Rahul Gandhi’s speech also echoed the concerns raised during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, a campaign that began on September 7, 2022, in Kanyakumari and concluded on January 29, 2023, in Srinagar. This 137-day journey covered 4,080 kilometres across 12 states and two union territories. The yatra aimed to unify India, emphasizing economic development, social justice, and inclusive governance.

During this journey, the yatris (travellers) addressed rallies, conducted public meetings, and interacted with citizens, focusing on issues such as rising prices, unemployment, violence in Manipur, and the aftermath of demonetization. The Bharat Jodo Yatra reinvigorated the Congress party, leading to a significant victory in the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election and subsequent landslide wins in Karnataka and Telangana in 2023.

Understanding the needs and aspirations of India's youth is paramount. For those aged 15 to 25, acquiring knowledge and skills through education and vocational training is crucial for future opportunities. Physical and mental health, career exploration, financial independence, and developing healthy relationships are vital aspects of their lives, were the several learnings along the way for Rahul Gandhi.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, sequel to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, began on January 14, 2024, in Thoubal, Manipur, and concluded on March 16, 2024, in Mumbai. It focused on social, economic, and political justice. This campaign built on the themes of the previous yatra, addressing economic disparity, societal division, and governance issues. The slogan "Nyay Ka Haq Milne Tak" emphasized Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to justice for all citizens.

Young Indians today face numerous challenges, including finding stable employment, managing student loan debt, and affording housing. The pressure to perform academically and the stigma around mental health issues exacerbate these concerns. The Indian National Congress’s campaigns, along with its coalition with numerous other political parties across India, the INDIA alliance, have consistently addressed these issues, advocating for inclusive policies, support systems, and a culture that respects diverse identities.

The youth's awareness of social issues and their active engagement with diverse communities highlight their concerns about equality, inclusivity, and polarization. The rise of gender discrimination, unequal opportunities, and gender-based violence has hindered progress and instilled fear.
