On the weekend, Colors showcased their Golden Petals Awards. From the time the channel started this initiative, they have always used this property to display their creative wizardry in their acts. A few years ago, the channel created history by presenting for the first ever an aqua act on the stage! Aashka Goradia was the first to be lowered into the pool, later joined by Deepika Samson and Simran Kaur. This uniquely designed uniquely designed aqua act, which was surrounded by a waterfall and set against the rocks, was choreographed by Geeta Kapoor, needless to say, it was the Ooh Factor of that night. This year’s OMG moment was a CGI reptile slithering down the tree onto the stage and vanishing. So other than the crowd pleasing riotous acts, Colors’ Golden Petals Awards Night has a few startling moments.

After Amrita Rao, Zarina Wahab and Deepti Naval stepping off the big screen into the small screen, its Zeenat Aman’s turn to step into the digital medium with Love, Life & Screw-ups. Directed by Kapil Sharma, he too makes his debut as a director. Playing a spinster called Joanna, she befriends youngsters to deal with her own messed-up life. Tinged with a comic streak, Zeenat Aman will be sporting the 1970’s look. A youth centric show, the story focusses on eight friends and their take on relationships. Love, Life and Screw-Ups will be webcast with English subtitles, keeping global audiences in mind.

Star Plus’ Tamanna is one of the most watched Prime Time serials. It is based on the journey of a young girl named Dhara from Jamnagar, Gujarat who wants to live her dreams of becoming a national level cricketer by fighting all odds. Her supportive father is always ready to guide and back her. In addition, her moving away from a tormented marriage and her love for her daughter makes the serial all the more interesting.
The unique story line, fast paced direction and sleek editing are enhanced by a class ensemble cast. Actors of a cut like Harsh Chayya, Ketaki Dave, Kiran Karmarkar are joined by the young and promising leading lady Anuja Sathe. This is why the viewers do not get bored no matter who is on screen, because the 21 minutes are gripping. As the serial revolves around cricket even the male viewers seem to connect with it.

Though many shows currently deal with women empowerment, Tamanna is special as it focuses on the real fight a woman puts up to gain recognition in a sport otherwise considered a men’s field. Besides, though Dhara is from a very conservative small town family, her father not only allows her to play cricket, but also encourages her to pursue it as a career. Post divorce, she moves to Meerut with her daughter for a challenging assignment as a coach in a school where the small town communal mindset is proving to be really difficult to run out.
At Prime Time, the acrid smoke of saas-bahu conflicts and mythology rehashed, Tamanna has blown in like a whiff of fresh air.
