In order to control the spread of rabies, the health wing of the Trichy Corporation and the department of animal husbandry held a vaccination camp to vaccinate both stray and domestic dogs on Friday. The move comes as dog bites continue unabated in the city and rural parts of the district thus keeping the residents always on their toes. For the residents, stray dog menace has remained a major challenge as they are frequently attacked and bitten by them. In a recent spree of dog bite, a rabies-affected dog bit more than eight people in the late hours of June 14. All the victims were brought to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) for treatment. “The staff in the health wing searched for the dog through the whole night. Finally, it was caught at Andakondan area in the morning. We identified the dog with the information given by the victims,” said Dr S Mariappan, city health officer (CHO), Trichy Corporation. Since the beginning of this financial year, the corporation caught 430 dogs in the city limits. Dr Mariappan said that all dogs were vaccinated and sterilised at the corporation-run veterinary unit in the city. The dogs were again brought to the place where they were caught
