Chile Receives the International Award of Sustainable Tourism
by The Daily Eye Team January 31 2014, 12:14 pm Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 51 secsThe Biosphere Awards for Responsible Tourism, was awarded by the Instituto de Tourismo Responsable, to tourist companies that promote sustainable practices, adopt international standards of sustainability, and encourage behavior that respects both the environmental and the socio-cultural surroundings.
The award, which was assigned under the category of ‘Initiatives’, was received by Lorena Sepúlveda, of ProChile, a Chilean company based in Spain that promotes tourism in Chile, at a major international tourism fair. The award was received on behalf of the National Direction of SERNATUR, Javier Vergara, who could not attend the award ceremony.
The “S Seal” was launched in early 2013 and currently, there are 40 establishments that hold the recognition, which is delivered by SERNATUR with the support of the Mesa Nacional de Sostenibilidad Turística.
“We are very proud that the Seal of Sustainable Tourism is internationally recognized because it gives a concrete indication of our progress towards sustainable development of our tourism services,” said Vergara.
