FEMALE led films are dominating the Australian box office, accounting for more than half of the highest grossing films so far this year.
According to Motion Pictures Distributors Association of Australia figures female-driven movies comprise six of the 10 biggest blockbusters — and there are four more female-led movies in the top 20. These blockbusters aren’t confined to traditional genres like rom-coms either, with strong women ‘kicking ass’ in action and adventure films including Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road and Shailene Woodley in The Divergent Series: Insurgent.
