Geena Davis Says Hollywood Hasn't Progressed Enough Since A League of Their Own

The actress and activist recalls in a new interview — filmed for League‘s 25th-anniversary Blu-ray release — that the hit baseball comedy was supposed to be a game-changer for female-driven films. “Grown men all the time tell me that it’s their favorite movie, their favorite sports movie,” Davis says. “In the press, they were saying, ‘This changes everything. Now there’s going to be so many female sports movies. This proves once and for all that women’s sports movies can be huge successes.’ And there were none! The ratio of male to female characters has been exactly the same since 1946.”
