Pakistan highlights importance of rule of law in promoting development

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has stressed the link between the rule of law and sustainable development, economic growth and the eradication of poverty and hunger, as the UN stepped up efforts to formulate a new development agenda.“Upholding the principles of justice and rule of law, equality, and settlement of disputes by peaceful means – all create an enabling environment for global peace and security and sustainable development,” ambassador Masood Khan told a panel of the open working group on sustainable development here.

The panel, hosted by Pakistan, met on the sides of the working group to deliberate on the topic, “Measuring the rule of law and the post-2015 development agenda,” in which UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson was the chief guest.
