With today’s farmers in dire need of sustainability, only organic farming falls within the accepted definition of sustainable agriculture. But to put organic farming into practice, a large number of consumers are required.
“Through this festival we aim to increase the demand among consumers by spreading awareness, thereby bringing organic farming to the forefront,” said Nachal, founder of Prapanjham. Elaborating on various organic food practices, the festival had speakers who talked about organic food and its significance in various areas of human life. They also dealt with controversial topics such as food and science or biotechnology and genetically modified (GM) food crops. According to Swaminathan, a professor, GM crops lead to the development of cancer cells in the human body.
