Sustainable development strategy swiped at in budget has no teeth, says NDP MP

The little-known Federal Sustainable Development Strategy, intended to provide green leadership in Canadian society by mapping the government’s environmental costs, was only mentioned when the budget plan spoke about the ecological impacts of the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit for Flow-Through Share Investors and the Tax Incentive for Clean Energy Generation on Tuesday. And even in these cases, the strategy’s probity didn’t amount to much. The tax credit for flow-through shares, which help encourage mineral exploration in Canada by making it cheaper to invest in small firms, was renewed for another year in the 2014 budget as was expected.
