The Feminist Art Movement: Empowerment, Creativity AND Power
by The Daily Eye Team June 20 2016, 10:54 am Estimated Reading Time: 0 mins, 37 secsThe Feminist Art Movement emerged in the late 1960s in an attempt to change the status of women around the world using art as the medium of expression. Since then, the movement has seen constant growth with both male and female artists dedicated to translating their thoughts and emotions about gender equality onto their creative canvases. These artists use a variety of art forms - from paintings to body art and sculptures - to start a dialogue between people.
Before the breaking of (a few) sexist ideologies in the 21st century, these artists were denied the freedom to showcase at exhibitions which lead them to use alternative venues and mediums like videos, performances and body art to express themselves.
