MARK COLVIN: Australian medical researchers are hailing the success of the campaign to vaccinate against the Human Papillomavirus, or HPV. After just four years, there’s been an enormous decline in genital warts among adolescents. For some groups, such as girls between 12 and 17, the drop in cases amounts to 90 per cent. That’s good news for preventing cervical cancer among women as they get older, and also particularly positive for Indigenous Australians. The University of New South Wales research has found vaccinating against HPV is helping close the health gap with the rest of the community. Simon Santow reports.
