Hollywood actor Ben Affleck has been honored for his charity work with a special prize from Save the Children.

The Argo star was among the guests of honor at the organization’s Save the Children Illumination Gala in New York City on Wednesday night (19Nov14) and was presented with the Global Child Advocate Award. Affleck, who attended with his wife Jennifer Garner, was handed the trophy for his philanthropy, which includes his work with the Eastern Congo Initiative, the organization he set up in 2010 to help residents of the war-torn region.

Speaking at the event, Affleck tells the Associated Press, “There are children in the United States… who can’t speak and they’re four years old, who can’t read until five years later than they should, who get no stimuli, who are really suffering, and we recognize it.
